I was born in Nashville, TN in 1980. I have pursued the creative arts all of my life having focused my artistic energies on photography for the last 14 years. I photograph the world around me as I find it,often using the camera’s ability to isolate its subject and focus a viewers attention. This ability to isolate, coupled with the power of the black and white print, allows me to highlight the beauty of my subject at its most fundamental level of line and form. This has drawn me to a wide variety of subject matter from nature to industry.
I have settled on a more traditional working style. I shoot the majority of my work with a large format view camera. These large format cameras produce negatives 4×5 inches or larger in size. This allows for exacting control over the initial image, increased enlargement capabilities, specific contrast control, and detail enhancement in even the largest prints. I process all of my own negatives and my black and white photographs are all produced by hand in my wet darkroom.
I have decided on these methods in order to produce the most exacting expression of my initial intentions for each image. I still feel that, while excellent, current digital technologies can not yet capture the feel and quality of a handmade black and white silver print.
My darkroom and studio are located in the vibrant, artistic community of East Nashville.
